Now this is an interesting concept… The East Village Art Coalition is sponsoring a one night exhibition where artwork is traded for instead of sold. It sounds like fun, and reminds me of the paperclip guy.
EVACcitywide Shoe Show
ONE NIGHT ONLY, Saturday August 4th, 2007
Fitch Gallery, 304 15th Street, Des Moines IA
Exhibition Overview:
Sponsored by EVACcitywide, Shoe Show is a unique exhibition offering artists, from amateur to professional, the opportunity to barter their unique creation (paintings, photographs, mixed media, sculpture) of shoes with the public; however, no monies can be exchanged for work. Instead, original works of art can be traded for nearly anything, from rubber bands to a Rolls-Royce. All trades must be mutually agreed upon the artist and the “buyer” during the one-night opening reception.
Requirements:
- Original works must address the shoe in some form of representation, from abstract to realistic.
- All media will be accepted, including painting, collage, sculpture, sound, video, electronic, and photography (artists must supply their own equipment for sound, video, or electronic presentations).
- Art work should be no bigger than a shoebox; and, must be wired for hanging, or ready to install. (Any work not ready to install will not be displayed.)
- Participating artists must be present the night of the show, or available by telephone.
Cost per entry is $5, up to two submissions per artist.
Drop off work at the Fitch Gallery, 304 15th St., Des Moines IA, from 1 pm to 4 pm August 2nd and 3rd, or mail original submissions by August 1st to:
EVACcitywide P.O. BOX 6096, Des Moines, IA 50309
